A Cycle of Promises

Life is a rush of events, one
after the other. You try to make time for everyone
but it’s impossible. And then people get
taken for granted.

You forget about those near and dear, until
they are gone. You considered calling them last night,
but you didn’t. And now they’re gone.
You can never call them again.

You regret and remorse and wish,
but it can’t be taken back. So you
make a vow, to yourself and to the ones you love.
You’ll promise to not forget them, too.

Until,
someone says something that hurts you.
Why should you keep your promise?
If they can’t keep theirs?
Then the cycle begins again.
